In our gaming guide, we looked at what really matters in a pair for gaming: the tint for the time of day, an anti-reflective coating and a frame that works with a headset. That leaves the practical question: which model is right for you? Here's our answer, profile by profile.
The evening gamer
You start playing after dinner and finish late. This is the profile for whom a warm tint makes the most sense: it filters a large share of blue light at the time when evening light delays sleep the most.
- DUNE — round black frame, orange lenses. Understated and lightweight.
- BRAISE — rectangular black frame, orange lenses. More graphic, it adds structure to round faces.
The limit: the game's colours become warmer. For a game where colour carries information (spotting an enemy, reading a map), test before a ranked match.
The streamer or on-camera gamer
On camera, orange lenses stand out and change your complexion. If you're being filmed, a clear lens looks much better, and it doesn't distort the colours of your overlay.
- MIDI — round and black, the most discreet on screen.
- JADE — translucent green, if you want a pair that's part of your channel's style.
The daytime gamer
You play in the afternoon, or you game and work on the same screen. A clear lens with an anti-reflective coating is enough: it reduces reflections from the window and the desk without touching the colours.
The console gamer on the sofa
You're two or three metres from the TV, often in a well-lit living room. In the evening, an amber or orange lens warms up both the screen and the room, which the TV's night mode can't do. SAFRAN (round, amber lenses) is a good compromise: warmer than a clear lens, less pronounced than orange.
The gamer who does it all
Gaming in the evening, working during the day: the most comfortable solution is still two pairs. A clear one on the desk, an orange one by the console. It's also what many gamers who wear both sunglasses and prescription glasses do: each pair has its moment.
What no pair will do
No pair, ours or anyone else's, improves your reflexes or your ranking. What it brings: fewer reflections, warmer light in the evening, and a frame you forget is on your nose. The rest comes down to breaks between matches, the distance from the screen and a well-lit room.
